UGST 109 FIG Seminar
TIME | BUILDING | CRN | 1 Credit
Who are public servants and what are their roles in the community? Whether you’re interested in the environment, health, or education system, public servants play an important part in all aspects of our society. In this FIG, we’ll discuss what public service means by learning more about the role of the public and nonprofit sectors through two classes: PPPM 280 (Intro to Nonprofits) and PPPM 370 (Global Sustainable Development & Policy). This FIG is for ambitious students interested in a career in public service or just looking to make a difference in their communities! We’ll explore this topic at the local and global levels, as well as at different scales ranging from large to small institutions. Through discussions, lectures, field trips, and guest speakers, students will have the opportunity to think about what public service means to them, how it can be improved, and how it can be used to promote sustainable development and build a better, more resilient society.
