Student Success First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) are offered in partnership with the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center (TAEC). These unique FIGs provide support both inside and outside the classroom through supplemental instruction, academic coaching, and personalized guidance.
Students are directly enrolled in a 4+1 FIG model, which pairs a TAEC-led seminar with a popular 4-credit core education course. This combination helps students build confidence, develop effective study habits, and successfully transition to college academics.

Benefits of the UGST 199 Student Success FIG Seminar
As a Student Success FIG participant, you'll join a small community of first-year students while receiving support designed to help you thrive at the University of Oregon. Before you arrive for IntroDUCKtion, you'll already have two courses on your schedule, making it easier to plan the rest of your classes with your academic advisor.
Here's what you can look forward to:
- A reserved seat in a popular core education course. We've saved a spot for you in a high-demand 4-credit course that fulfills a core education requirement.
- A built-in community. Connect with a small group of fellow first-year students and build friendships through shared classes and experiences.
- A stronger start to college academics. Develop study strategies, time management skills, and learning techniques that will help you succeed throughout your academic journey.
- Organization and confidence. Stay on top of important deadlines, manage your responsibilities, and reduce the stress that can come with starting college.
- Guidance for navigating UO. Learn about campus resources, degree planning, and opportunities that can help you make the most of your college experience.
In addition, you'll be supported by a Peer Educator who can answer questions about college life, share academic success strategies, and help you feel connected to the UO community from day one.
