FIG Assistant: Alice
Hey everyone! My name is Alice and I’ll be the FIG Assistant working alongside Dr. Ngo in the Public Service: A Call to Action FIG this fall. I’m a third year student majoring in Biological Anthropology and minoring in Global Health. I’m interested in understanding the social determinants of health and learning about tackling health problems through prevention at the community level. I hope to pursue a career in public health after I graduate.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and while I applied to colleges up and down the West Coast, everything that the Pacific Northwest and University of Oregon have to offer ultimately drew me in. My experience at UO so far has been a great one, from the people I’ve met and the classes I’ve taken, to figuring out what I’m passionate about studying and pursuing as a career. Some of my favorite memories at UO have been cheering for the Ducks at football games, picnics at Washburn Park, workout classes at the Rec with friends, study sessions at local coffee shops, and bike rides by the river.
I’m so excited to be working with Dr. Ngo this year, learning right alongside you all about what it means to be a public servant making a difference in your community. I was part of a FIG myself as a freshman and found it to be an incredibly positive experience. It’s such a valuable tool to help guide you through the transition from high school to college, and a great way to begin to build new connections. I feel so lucky to have had such a positive, formative experience during my first two years at UO, and I’m excited to be able to share what I’ve learned with new students. Don’t hesitate to hit me up in the fall for the best study spots or coffee recommendations! Please feel free to reach out by email with any questions at all. I’m excited to meet you!
