FIG College Connections Faculty: Jeanne Hall - College of Education

Hello, Ducks!

I’m Jeanne Nagayama Hall, the faculty person for the “Who’s Allowed In?” FIG. I’m very excited to be in this FIG, where we’ll discuss why groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and being the first-in-the family to go to college have historically and presently not been fully allowed in our education and other systems. You’ll get to explore and develop your identities, as well as support the identities of others.

From my photo, you can see I’m a Duck fan! I love to support our Ducks, hike, and also play with our 2-year old granddaughter. My department “nest” is the Department of Education Studies where I’m a Senior Instructor, and I also teach courses in the Educational Foundations major.

So get ready to learn and fly together!

FIG Assistant: Katey Williams

My name is Katey and I will be the FIG Assistant for “Who’s Allowed In?”, a FIG that has previously helped me understand how identities play a huge role in student success. This will be my first year as a FIG Assistant, but since I took the same classes before, I am excited to share what I learned with first-year students like you!

I grew up in Southeast Asia — in the Philippines to be exact, then I moved to Eugene with my family when I was seventeen. I particularly enjoy Oregon’s sceneries and the culture that was different from what I grew up with. I am an incoming sophomore studying Advertising at the School of Journalism and Communications, with a double minor in Multimedia and Audio Production. I enjoy art and playing the guitar in my spare time.

What I love about getting involved at the U of O is that you can always find something that connects with your interests. You can always find a place to pour your passion into, whether it’s an intramural sport or a musical group. On Sundays I hang out with climate activists in a group called Sunrise Eugene, and we sometimes organize with other student-led organizations on campus!

I am excited to work with you as you navigate through your personal identity as well as your scholarly identity at the U of O! If anything about this FIG excites you, or you would like me to get to know you before Fall, you can introduce yourself and your interests through email. Be sure to check out your short summer assignment as well, and don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns! Enjoy the rest of your summer and I’ll see you in the fall!
