FIG Instructor: Alex Cohen

Alex Segre Cohen is an Assistant Professor who researches where science, the environment, and society intersect. She asks questions about how the public perceives and understands science and technology, how science is used to inform people’s behavior, and how we should communicate about polarizing policy issues such as climate change and environmental justice. Alex received her Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Clark University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Southern California. She’s worked in Washington, DC, for the National Science Foundation and has been actively involved in the environmental and climate justice movement through her work at Our Climate Voices.

When Alex isn't doing research, she can be found hiking and camping, listening to audiobooks, or on a never-ending quest for the perfect fish taco.

FIG Assistant: Alice

Hey hey! I’m Alice, an Environmental Science/Biology double major with a minor in Environmental Humanities heading into my senior year at the UO – ENVS203 was the course that ultimately made me add the minor, so I’m psyched to be assisting with this FIG! Alongside my role as an FA, I’ve also been involved as a BTU/BULA for some of the general biology courses and will be starting as a Class Encore Leader this year. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking, ballroom dancing (mainly Latin styles and East Coast Swing), crocheting/crafting, reading, and visiting new coffee shops with friends! Plus, I love listening to and talking about music, so expect plenty of questions about your music taste when I meet you! Freshman year can be quite daunting, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you need support in any way. Looking forward to meeting y’all in the fall!
