Social Progress, Social Change Faculty and FIG Assistant

FIG College Connections Faculty: Jamie Bufalino - Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality, College of Arts and Sciences

I am an instructor in the departments of History and Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies. I teach on a wide range of topics including women's history; race, gender and social movements; feminism; and women in consumer culture and the neoliberal economy.

I wears many hats at UO including being a faculty advisor for the department of history and the department of women's, gender, and sexuality studies and the Director of the General Social Sciences program.

I have three teenage daughters and recently have toured about 25 colleges and universities throughout the country helping each of them search for the perfect college.  My oldest daughter just completed her first year at Clark University in Worcester, MA. So I have lots of first-hand experience with and empathy for first-year students.  I am a feminist who loves travel, fashion, and popular culture. I grew up in Southern California but am delighted to be an Oregonian.

I have a passion for teaching and look forward to working with students in both WGSS 101 and the Social Progress, Social Change FIG.

FIG Assistant: Lauren King Watt

Hello! My name is Lauren, and I’m so excited to be a first year FIG assistant this fall! ! I will be a second year undergraduate student, double majoring in Global Studies and General Science with minors in Spanish and Global Health. I’m also from Portland, and here at UO I love the academic resources, the beautiful campus, and the people! I’m involved in several organizations on campus so far, including the Student Health Advisory Committee and the Trans Resilience and Health Research Study. In my free time I enjoy doing ceramics at the craft center, hanging out with friends, going thrifting, and finding good spots for food. I know the transition to college(and chemistry courses) can be challenging, but I’m excited to help students with that transition so that they feel like a successful student. I look forward to meeting everyone in the fall, and I hope to see you there! If you’re registered for the FIG, please reach out if you’d like to tell me about yourself or have any questions about the FIG or UO in general!
