FIG Assistant: Rosa Taylor

Hi everyone! My name is Rosa Taylor and I’m going to be your FIG assistant for the "Scratching  the Surface of Medical Misogyny" FIG. I can’t wait to meet and get to know everyone this fall but until then here's a little bit about myself so you can get to know me better in the meantime:

I was born in Seattle, Washington so I’ve always loved the Pacific Northwest and being outdoors. During the spring time you can absolutely find me at one of Eugene's many public parks trying to soak up whatever sun Oregon has to offer.  I also have a super international background which I am endlessly grateful for. I moved to Milan, Italy to attend school there when I was 14 which is still by far one of the highlights of my life. After I graduated my parents moved back to my mom’s hometown which is a small city called Weinheim, in West Germany. I grew up speaking German with my family but also picked up fluent Italian through my time in Italy and some mediocre Spanish through school. I ended up returning to the Pacific Northwest for college because I wanted to be closer to some of my older American family members and friends as well as the beautiful scenery the PNW has to offer and found myself here at the University of Oregon. I have two cats named Honey and DJ who live with me here in Oregon, and at the ripe old age of 21, I already consider myself a crazy cat lady. In my free time I love to cultivate my garden of houseplants as well as do literally any outdoor activity (hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, you name it.) I also love to paint and while I doubt you’ll be seeing any of my stuff in an art gallery anytime soon it certainly decorates my home beautifully. I am going into my Senior year here at UO, majoring in Biological Anthropology and minoring in Global Health (both of which are amazing programs). I am also a part of the Global Health Biomarkers research lab here on campus which has been an amazing opportunity and has inspired me to get as many people involved with undergraduate research as possible. Medical ethics is a topic I am extremely passionate about and Medical Advocacy is something I hope to pursue further throughout the rest of my career so creating this FIG felt important. I think that often pre-health majors are pushed by the school into hard STEM classes without much consideration for the humanitarian side of medicine and health that drives so many of us. I hope that this FIG can help provide some of the missing pieces that I wish I had sought out sooner in my academic career so that new college students are able to get the most well-rounded pre-health education. I hope to host both weekly study sessions as well as activities for everyone to participate in throughout the term so we can all get to know each other better and hopefully form some bonds! If you want to get in contact with me for any reason feel free to shoot me an email. I look forward to meeting everyone and hope everyone has a great summer and start to fall term!
