FIG Faculty: Diane Hawley - Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Arts and Sciences

I am a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and have been at the University of Oregon since 1986. I spent my childhood through college years in small-town Kansas, receiving a BA at the University of Kansas. I then got to experience life in large East Coast cities while earning my Ph.D. at Harvard University and pursuing postdoctoral research in New York City at the Rockefeller University. I value those experiences, but I am grateful to now live here in beautiful Oregon and to pursue my molecular biology research and teaching at the University of Oregon. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, singing with the Eugene Symphony Chorus and the mixed acappella group Clefs of Insanity, and training and competing in agility with my dogs.

FIG Assistant: Lauren King Watt

Hello! My name is Lauren, and I’m so excited to be a third-year FIG assistant this fall! ! I will be a fourth-year undergraduate student, double majoring in Global Studies and General Science with minors in Spanish and Global Health. I’m also from Portland, and here at UO, I love the academic resources, the beautiful campus, and the people! Organizations I'm involved with on campus so far are the Student Health Advisory Committee and the Oregon Public Health Corps. In my free time, I enjoy visiting parks, hanging out with friends, going thrifting, finding good spots for food, and listening to music. I know the transition to college (and chemistry courses) can be challenging, but I’m excited to help students with that transition so that they feel like a successful student. I look forward to meeting everyone in the fall, and I hope to see you there! If you’re registered for the FIG, please reach out if you’d like to tell me about yourself or have any questions about the FIG or UO in general!
