Hey team! My name is Dr. Abby Cullen and I am an assistant teaching professor in the Human Physiology Department. I grew up along the Space Coast of Florida and have been interested in science as long as I can remember. It helps when you have scientists and an astronaut as relatives! My husband, Kevin, and I moved here in 2020 (mid-panny) after I completed my PhD in Exercise Physiology at Florida State University. I started as a post-doctoral scholar, eventually becoming a fellow, in the Human Physiology Department working with Dr. Ashley Walker. As a post-doc, I was able to incorporate my love of nutrition into Dr. Walker's research in Alzheimer's disease. I received a grant that allowed me to investigate how dietary zinc imbalance contributes to endothelial cell and cognitive function in murine models of Alzheimer's disease. My favorite hobbies are reading, knitting/crocheting, working in my garden, and sprinting in Orange Theory Fitness classes. I am also working on a science-fiction/fantasy novel! This is a photo of me frolicking, as one does, in lavender fields at the Oregon Lavender Festival last June.
