FIG Faculty: Olivia Wing - Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences
Hi everyone! My name is Olivia Wing, and I’ll be the instructor of record for our FIG, War in the News. I am a PhD candidate in the Department of History, and I specialize in the history of Chinese and Japanese American youth culture in the Pacific Northwest during the mid-twentieth century. Through my research I hope to better understand the way that young Asian Americans found and formed a sense of belonging through clubs, sports, pageants, and each other.
I’m a California transplant—I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended UC Davis for my undergraduate degree—but I’ve called Oregon home for five years now. When I’m not hunched over at my desk or desperately (fruitlessly) trying to keep my houseplants alive you’ll find me hitting one of our stunning local trails, trying out a new coffee-brewing gadget, or watching yet another British crime procedural.
I’m so happy to report that that Story Arney will be your FIG Assistant (FA) this quarter! He is very well-versed in all things FIG and is involved in many aspects of UO life, so he’ll be an excellent resource for you. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or just want to introduce yourself! I’m always happy to chat. Welcome to UO, and I look forward to meeting all of you!
