FIG College Connections Faculty: Anna Carroll

Hey, hi, hello! I’m Anna Carroll, she/her pronouns, and I’m a Senior Instructor in the English Department/Composition Program. I did my doctorate here at UO, so I’ve been happily ensconced in Eugene and teaching at the university for fifteen years. I work mostly with first-year students in the fundamental writing courses (WR 121z and WR 122z), but I also teach several courses for the Writing, Speaking, and Critical Reasoning Minor, including “Inventing Arguments,” an upper-division course in which students develop complex and extended arguments about a fandom of their choosing; and “Murder, She Rewrote,” a Calderwood Seminar in Public Writing that explores cozy murder mysteries penned by women of color. I will answer to “Mother of Dragons,” I’m an avid Serena Williams fan, and I think everyone should read The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. See me here pictured with a baby goat (cute kid) on the EMU lawn in Spring 2024.

FIG Assistant: Eryn Mcaninch

Hello everyone, my name is Eryn McAninch, I use they/them pronouns, and I'll be FA for Discovering your Voice! This will be my seond year as an FA and I have taken a FIG before, so I like to think I have a good idea of what I'm doing, but that's just me. I am an English major with minors in Creative Writing and Comic Studies.

I'm still new to the Eugene area and well Oregon itself. Pretty different from Columbus, Ohio. (Don't get me started on the wonders of public transport here.) Other than that, I spend a lot of time working on a webcomic and writing. I'm almost certain my hands are going to fall off by the time I graduate. I try to read in my free time, but I already have a lot to read with my major.

Since this is your first term of your first year it can be exciting and daunting. Reach out if you need it because sometimes questions don't come up immediately so feel free to ask at any time and I will do my best to get some answers!
