FIG Faculty: Amber McConnell

Hello! My name is Amber McConnell and I am a Chemistry Instructor with the College of Arts and Sciences. I’ve been teaching college-level chemistry for about 12 years and started teaching at UO in the fall of 2023. I graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry in 2007 from Eastern Washington University and then a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Utah in 2012.

I have a deep passion for theory and love to discover new connections between fields by challenging conventional boundaries. In this FIG we will explore the chemistry of art and the relationship between the various artforms and chemical composition.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy going on hikes, riding my bike around town, watching movies with my daughter, and snuggling on the couch with my two adorable kitties.

FIG Assistant: Isabella Engblom

Hi! My name is Isabella Engblom, my pronouns are she/her, and I am the FIG Assistant for Chemistry of Art! I will be a third-year student at the U of O and I am a Human Physiology Major. This will be my second year as an FA, and I am really excited to meet everyone! I was born in New Mexico, and I have also lived in Colorado and Idaho. However, Oregon is definitely my favorite place to be! In my free time, I love to experiment with new mediums of art, go skiing with my family, and listening to music! My happy place is the ocean, and I have been having a great time learning to surf recently. I also love to watch movies and TV shows, so feel free to talk to me about or recommend your favorites!

I was in a FYE my first year, and it was such an amazing experience! I am really excited to be a part of this program, so please let me know if you have any questions! See you this fall!
