Solve it with Code Faculty & FIG Assistant

Kathleen Freeman

FIG Faculty: Kathleen Freeman

Welcome to Solve it with Code! I am the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a Senior Instructor in the Computer Science Department, and I am excited to meet and work with students who are interested in learning about problem solving.  In this FIG, we will explore computational approaches to solving problems (programming/coding) that you can put to use in CS 122 and beyond — other courses, CS or another major, and your life!

Outside of programming, I enjoy hiking, sailing, reading, and enjoying time with my family and friends.  Finally, a shout out to Amanda, our FIG Assistant and a terrific CS student.  We look forward to teaming up with you as you begin your UO college careers.

Amanda Hoelting
FIG Assistant: Amanda Hoelting

Hello everyone! My name is Amanda Hoelting, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I am the FIG assistant for Solve it with Code! I will be a fourth-year student here at the University of Oregon pursuing a BS in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration.

I am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado. My first time visiting Oregon was actually when I came to tour the U of O. As soon as I stepped on campus, I knew this was where I wanted to spend the next four years.

In my free time I love hiking, thrifting, watching movies, and listening to my (small but growing) vinyl collection. I am always looking for new movie and music recommendations!

I am very excited to be the FIG assistant for Solve it with Code this year. The growth of the Computer Science program here during the time I have been a student has been amazing to watch, and this new FIG really shows that. I am so excited to meet you all in the fall. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
