FIG Faculty: Andrea Herrera

Hi! I'm Dr. Andrea P Herrera (they/them), a queer sociologist who has worked in homelessness and food justice, antiracism, queer liberation, and other social movements in Eugene for the past 12 years. A lot of people call me "dr H." I teach in the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department at UO and also direct the LGBTQIA+ Scholars Academic Residential Community.

When I'm not teaching or working with students at UO, I'm hanging out with my partners, child, best friends, and close family. I host a Little Free Pantry/Fridge, which is a free community resource for anyone to take/leave food. I love cooking and art and games and theorizing our collective liberation from systems of inequality. Nobody's free until everybody's free! ❤️

FIG Assistant: Bailey Posey

Hi friends! My name is Bailey Posey and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I’ll be a third-year student, majoring in sociology with a concentration in inequalities, crime, and social justice, with a minor in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, or WGSS. I’m also considering either a double minor or a double major in planning, public policy and management, or PPPM, but that’s to be determined! I’m so excited to be part of the team that creates the Collective Justice and Social Change FIG for you all! Many of my passions in life revolve around becoming a better human myself and creating a better world for every human here, and I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of this FIG, working with Dr. Herrera. I can’t think of a better team to be a part of!

I’ve lived in Springfield/Eugene my whole life and have always known I wanted to go to UO, so I’d love to talk about what brought you here! It’s been surreal for me so far – I can’t imagine myself being anywhere else. Outside of academia, I love FaceTiming my nieces and nephews, traveling, writing, reading (send me all your recs and I’ll do the same!), swimming, and I’ve recently been getting into roller skating. When the sun comes out, I also just spend a lot of time lying outside! I’d love to get to know you all better, so please feel free to reach out to me whenever, about anything. I am 100% always down to talk and make friends!

I can’t wait to meet everyone in the fall, and I hope you’re as excited as I am. It’s going to be so fun!

If you have any questions or if this doesn't work, let me know! I hope your day is going well. : ) Thanks so much!
