FIG Assistant: AJ Gotera

Hi! My name is AJ Gotera and I’m a Popular Music major with minors in Audio Production and Korean. I’m from a small town an hour north of Seattle called Arlington, choosing to come to the University of Oregon because of its unique music program. I work at the School of Music and Dance as an Audio Engineer and work on staff as the Vice President for the Music Industry Collective, a student-led organization that aims to provide cross-disciplinary education in the music industry for students at the UO. As a proud Filipino-American, I am also the Events Coordinator for Kultura Pilipinas, a student-led organization that acts as a solid foundation and social forum for people of Filipino descent and for people who aim to learn about Filipino culture and heritage. I’m currently conducting research on cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation in Asian music with my current focus being on Korean, Filipino, and Japanese music. I love to make music, and I’m always looking for an opportunity to collaborate with people (feel free to hit me up if you want to jam!). As a FIG Assistant, my goal is to help you as best as I can to navigate your time here at the University of Oregon and provide you with resources for you to succeed.
