FIG Faculty: Leslie Coonrod - Knight Campus Internship Program

My name is Leslie Coonrod, and I received my Ph.D. right here at theU of O. My thesis work was focused on the disease myotonic dystrophy (one of the muscular dystrophys), specifically, trying to find a drug to treat the disease. Since graduating in 2012, I have continued my research, while moving into my current role as Associate Director of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Track within the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program.

I work to train students in the tools they need to become bioinformaticians. In my spare time, I like to cook, bike, hike, and read; however, at the moment, most of my spare time is taken up by my ongoing experiments in developmental biology: my 5.5 and 1.5 year old sons! It’s amazing to watch them both grow and learn - they have really shown me how to appreciate the world around me as they discover it!

FIG Assistant: Esther Mozipo

Hello Everyone! My name is Esther Mozipo and I’m going to be a FIG assistant for the “Humane Genome” FIG this Fall 2022. While this is going to be my third year being a FIG assistant, I was in this FIG my freshman year and I’m super excited to be sharing this experience with you all!

I’m currently a senior with a major in Human Physiology and a minor in Chemistry and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience here at the UO so far. Outside of course work, I also spend my time volunteering by mentoring high school students through the UO SAIL program. In my free time, I like to sing, hike with my friends, and buy sneakers.

Again, I’m super excited to have to opportunity to spend this first term getting to know you all. If any of you have questions that you want to ask before fall term starts, send me an email!
