Food Adventures FIG Instructor and Assistant

FIG Instructor: Erin McKenna

I am a professor of philosophy who works on issues of animal and environmental ethics using an ecofeminist pragmatist perspective.  I regularly teach classes on food ethics, ecofeminism, human nature, and American pragmatism. I live with two Australian Shepherds--Kira (named for a Star Trek character) and Scully (named for an X-files character).  My early work on utopia mixes well with science fiction as ways to help us envision different possible futures.  I am particularly excited to teach this FIG, Food Adventures. My work challenges notions of human exceptionalism and superiority and I argue that humans need to acknowledge, and work within the limits of, our shared interdependence with the rest of nature.

FIG Assistant: Izabelle

Hi! My name is Izabelle, my pronouns are she/her, and I am the FIG assistant for the Food Adventures FIG. I will be a third-year student at the UO, and I am working on a Psychology major, and Food Studies and Legal Studies minors. I am from outside of Portland, or for those of you who are from Oregon, a town named Gresham. When I have free time, I love cooking, reading, and watching Brooklyn 99. I was also a part of this FIG in my first fall term, and I truly enjoyed my experience, I thought it was incredibly helpful in acclimating me to college which is why I have decided to rejoin the program. I am so excited to meet and work with all of you in the future!
