Elemental Women FIG Instructor and Assistant

Amber Mcconnell

FIG Instructor: Amber McConnell

Hello! My name is Amber McConnell and I am a Chemistry Instructor with the College of Arts and Sciences. I’ve been teaching college-level chemistry for about 13 years and started teaching at UO in the fall of 2023. I graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry in 2007 from Eastern Washington University and then a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Utah in 2012.

I have a deep passion for theory and love to discover new connections between fields by challenging conventional boundaries. In this FIG we will explore the chemistry of art and the relationship between the various artforms and chemical composition.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy going on hikes, riding my bike around town, watching movies with my daughter, and snuggling on the couch with my two adorable kitties.

FIG Assistant: Megan

Hi! My name is Megan, and I'm your FIG assistant for Elemental Women! I'm a sophomore majoring in Biology with a minor in English. I'm originally from Benicia, California, but I've come to love Eugene (even when it rains).

I love to read, play tennis, listen to music, cook/bake, and watch crime dramas. I also love to explore town and hang out with friends, and I'm always open to give/receive suggestions on new things to do!

Please feel free to reach out at any time! If it's a question about classes or adjusting to life in Eugene, or even something like a show recommendation, I'm always happy to listen.
