FIG Instructor: Dean Mundy

Hi everyone! I’m Dean Mundy, and I’m an associate professor in the SOJC’s public relations major. Originally from North Carolina (Go Heels!), my husband and I moved here in 2014 (time flies). My research is twofold. I broadly look at how organizations convey values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their strategic communication practices (and yes, the current environment is, for lack of a better word, “fascinating” to study.) More specifically, I have looked at best practices regarding how LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations use strategic communication to forward their campaigns for equality. Prior to entering academia, I worked in the corporate world for about a decade, mostly for the Coca-Cola company, but also for Accenture Consulting and the now-defunct Nortel Networks.

More importantly, this is a recent picture of me eating fried pickles in Bend, Oregon. Fried pickles are important.

FIG Assistant: Clare

Hi! My name is Clare, and I am one of the FAs for Building Character(s). I am majoring in Psychology, and I am super excited to get to know everyone in the FIG! I am from Fort Worth, Texas, and I have a ton of family in Louisiana. I love the South, but Oregon definitely has a different kind of beauty to it! I really enjoy traveling, one of my favorite places I have been to is Australia. In my free time, I am a big trinket collector, my current obsession are Palm Pals! I also love listening to new music, TV shows, movies, and games, so if you have a recommendation, I would love to hear it! I was in a FIG during my freshman year, and now this is my first year serving as an FA. The class really helped me get myself out there and feel part of a community here at UO. I am so excited to give that to others, and I cannot wait to meet you this fall!
