Hello! I’m Betsy Wheeler, faculty leader of the Brilliant Imperfection FIG 2024. I’m a Professor of English, founder of the Disability Studies program at the University of Oregon, and proud member of several disability communities. This FIG will introduce you to the history, cultures, and politics of disability, its intersections with race, gender, and class, and to disability groups at UO and in Lane County—and provide a home for you in your first UO term.

FIG Assistant: Ava Moe

Hi guys! My name is Ava (she/her) and I am thrilled to be your FIG assistant this fall! I was in a FIG my freshman year, and I loved it! I am a second-year psychology and sociology major minoring in criminology, and my dream career is to be a Criminal Psychologist/Profiler.

In my free time, I love to read, bake, be outside, hug my dog, and just hang out with friends and family. A few fun facts about me are that I’m originally from Minnesota, but moved to Oregon almost three years ago (I absolutely adore it here), I’m obsessed with Pride and Prejudice, and my celeb crushes are def Sam Claflin and Matthew Gray Gubler.

I am so excited to meet and work with you all in the fall! Always feel free to reach out about anything! :)
