FIG Assistant: Bianca Pak

My name is Bianca and I will be the FIG Assistant (FA) for “Beyond the Bars.” This will be my second year as an FA and my first year with this brand-new FIG. Last Fall, I worked with a group of first-year students in the honors college focusing on this same topic and had a wonderful experience, so I am very excited to work with this FIG in Fall 2020!

I am a third-year student here at the UO and have enjoyed my last three years in Eugene – exploring the outdoors, trying different restaurants in the area (big food lover!), and finding my community. I am originally from the Portland area and am majoring in Political Science and General Social Sciences with a minor in Disability Studies.

Outside of my classes, I am an intern for the UO Prison Education Program, a program that provides educational opportunities for people who are incarcerated; a member of the steering committee for Carnegie Global Oregon, a group focused on ethics and social justice; and a dispatcher for Safe Ride, UO’s assault-prevention shuttle service for students. In my free time, I love to cook (and eat), go on runs, and drink lots of coffee.

I am very excited to meet all of you in the Fall! Check out the summer assignment below, email me if you have any questions about the assignment or the FIG, and have a great summer!
