Beneath the Surface: An Archaeological Encounter FIG Instructor and Assistant
FIG Instructor: Gabriel Sanchez
Hello. My name is Gabriel Sanchez, and I am excited to offer a new FIG this fall entitled Beneath the Surface: An Archaeological Encounter. This FIG is an outgrowth of over a decade of student mentorship and teaching in archaeology at the University of California, Berkeley, and Michigan State University. Archaeology undergraduates must balance in-class and experiential learning in the laboratory and field. This FIG is designed to allow students to participate in laboratory and museum-based research to prepare them for fieldwork in the future. You will work closely with your FIG supervisor, Maddie Spanks, and me as part of this FIG. You will also learn the basics of archaeology through active participation in the laboratory. Students will engage in anthropology and Native American and Indigenous Studies coursework. We are also honored to offer our students the opportunity to be in conversation with Tribal and non-Tribal archaeologists from the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde during a field trip at the end of the term.
