When Justice Fails FIG Instructor and Assistant

FIG Faculty: Robert Rocklin

My name is Bob Rocklin, and I am a pro tem instructor in the School of Law.  I’m old, so if I included a complete bio, we’d be here forever.  Highlights include a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, a law degree from UCLA, and a master’s degree in psychology from UO.  In addition, I completed significant doctoral work in psychology here at UO.  I have worked as a corporate tax lawyer, an assistant attorney general, an appellate court staff attorney, an Oregon Supreme Court law clerk, and faculty at two different law schools.  I have handled appeals in a wide variety of cases.

I’m interested in all things related to criminal justice, especially forensic science, wrongful convictions, death penalty, and anything that involves psychology and law.  In the last couple of decades, I have taught all levels of post-secondary students, including graduate students, law students, and undergraduate students.  I am currently teaching a course inside the Oregon State Penitentiary.

Labrador Retrievers are the best dogs, and one can never have too many guitars or bicycles.  I am truly excited to work with first-year students in a FIG.

FIG Assistant: Maddie

Hey everyone! I'm Maddie, and I’m super excited to be your FIG Assistant this year! In the fall of '24 I was in the When Justice Fails FIG, and I had such an amazing time that I couldn’t resist coming back to help you all make the most of this experience.

A bit about me: I’m a political science major with a minor in legal studies at the Clark Honors College. I’m originally from Denver, Colorado, so if you ever want to talk about hiking, snowboarding, or mountain views, I’m your girl! But since moving to Oregon, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Eugene and all the little hidden gems it has to offer. (Lmk if you need food recs)

2025 will be my first year as a FIG Assistant, so I’m just as excited as you are to dive into this journey! I know transitioning to college can feel like a lot at once, but I’m here to help with whatever you need. Seriously, don’t hesitate to reach out for anything—whether it’s advice, a question, or just to chat. I’m here for you, and I can’t wait to meet all of you!
