FIG Faculty: Mathilde Bégu

Bonjour ! My name is Mathilde Bégu. I was born and grew up in France most of my life, but I have lived in the United States for 11 years now, and I think I picked the best spot when I moved to Oregon in 2020! I am a language teacher at heart, and I love teaching my first language (French), as well as the diverse cultures and traditions of populations who speak it around the world. In this FIG, we will explore different ways to truly enjoy and enhance your language learning experience at the university and beyond. Language learning is a life long journey and I am so excited that you chose to explore this path with me and our wonderful assistant. I look forward to building this community together in the Fall.

FIG Assistant: Talya

Hi there! I’m Talya, and I’m so excited to be your FIG Assistant this year! I’m majoring in Family and Human Services with a minor in Psychology. I was born in China, raised in Los Angeles, and made the move to Eugene for college. Eugene has truly become a special place to me —from the beautiful hiking trails right outside your door to the essential late-night treat: Voodoo Doughnuts.

A few of my favorite things: trying new foods (especially if they involve sugar), hiking, running along the river, crocheting, listening to people’s stories, and doing ceramics at UO ceramics studio (which is amazing, by the way!). If you have a favorite food, please share —I’m always looking for something new to try :)

I know transitioning from high school to college can feel like a big leap, but I’m here to support you every step of the way. Whether you have questions, concerns, or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of you!
