FIG Faculty: Mathilde Bégu

Bonjour ! My name is Mathilde Bégu. I was born and grew up in France most of my life, but I have lived in the United States for 11 years now, and I think I picked the best spot when I moved to Oregon in 2020! I am a language teacher at heart, and I love teaching my first language (French), as well as the diverse cultures and traditions of populations who speak it around the world. In this FIG, we will explore different ways to truly enjoy and enhance your language learning experience at the university and beyond. Language learning is a life long journey and I am so excited that you chose to explore this path with me and our wonderful assistant Nelly. I look forward to building this community together in the Fall.

FIG Assistant: Nelly Bescond

Greetings fellow language enthusiasts!

Hello! My name is Nelly Bescond, I use she/her, and I will be your FA for Speak to the World. I am a Junior majoring in Art & Technology and minoring in Entrepeneurship, hoping to have my own brand as a freelance designer. To escape my thoughts about the heat death of the universe, I love to draw or write while listening to music, dance like nobody's watching, and play video games. I will also go absolutely feral for cotton candy grapes.

I was born in Oregon to immigrant parents and grew up speaking French and Czech. Even though my first language is English, these languages and cultures have been an integral part of my life and have played an important role in forming my identity.

Matilde and I are thrilled to work together to provide the best introduction to our own perspective and passion for languages. We hope you get something out of this class and hopefully choose a language to study, whether it’s for your major or part of your language studies degree. We welcome you all! Please feel free to reach out to me or Matilde if you have any questions. We are here to help!
