FIG College Connections Faculty: Colleen Choquette

Colleen Choquette-Raphael uses text, photography, video and found objects to investigate how artifacts from the natural world and culture act as mediators of experience. Currently her practice includes strategies of repetition and duration to compose a performative narrative around the plight of the elephant as a symbol of matriarchy, grief and the history of speciesism. As UO faculty, Choquette-Raphael has taught a broad constellation of courses from all aspects of photographic media, experimental book structures, and seminars on public art and performance. She has taught foundations and freshmen seminars on art and the found object.

Colleen is the faculty advisor for the School of Art and Design. She has served as the director of study abroad programs in Italy and Greece and has been invited to lead UO alumni tours in Tanzania, the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany.

Her background includes degrees in Art History, Visual Design and Intermedia Art. She unabashedly loves all animals and traveling to places where she can swim in the sea.

Natalie
FIG Assistant: Natalie Garcia

Hello everyone! My name is Natalie Garcia, and I’ll be your FIG Assistant for this term for “Inside Art!” This is my third year as a FIG Assistant, and I’m super excited to meet y’all this fall.

I’m an Ethnic Studies Major, with a double minor in Art and Comics Studies. I’m a first-generation student, and I’ll be a Junior in the fall of 2023. I love drawing, painting, and trying out new mediums, but making comics has always had a special place in my heart. Outside ofcollege, I love to hang out with my friends, go thrifting, and play video games. I also love to hang out with my cat, Rune.

I’m super excited to get to know you all in the fall and help with the transition into college life. In addition to the class itself, you’ll always find a support system from Colleen and I throughout the term. If you have any questions about the FIG, collegelife, or if you just want to reach out and say hello, you’re more than welcome to send me an email :)
