Conflicting Experiences Faculty and FIG Assistant

FIG College Connections Faculty: Alex Dracobly - History, College of Arts and Sciences

I was born and raised in Seattle. After a happy childhood playing sports and some wilder teen years, I attended Grinnell College, a small liberal arts college in Iowa, and then attended the University of Chicago for graduate school. I’ve been teaching history at the University of Oregon since 1995-1996. As it happens, my wife also teaches history at the UO – we came together from Chicago, a two-for-one. We have two kids, one starting high school and the other in middle school. Besides reading – you can’t be a historian if you don’t like to read! - I enjoy outsdoorsy pursuits and music (listening and playing, though it is only fair to add that I am a pretty lousy musician, whether on drums or guitar).

FIG Assistant: Amelia Hahn

Hi everyone, I’m Amelia! I’m excited to be the FA for Conflicting Experiences. I was in the War and Peace FIG my freshman year and loved it. I appreciated the community and support system it provided and really enjoyed the classes. I love history and am excited for more history adventures this fall as a FIG assistant. I’m a Pacific Northwest native and have been in Eugene for the past six years. My favorite things about the PNW are the coast, the beautiful green landscape, the coffee, and the high levels of coffee snobbery. I love reading, especially fantasy, science fiction, and classic literature. When I have free time I like to try to write things myself. I also enjoy film and theater, and like to help my friends with their various film projects and webseries whenever I can. I look forward to meeting all my new FIG students! If you do sign up for Conflicting Experiences, please send me an email so that I have your email and can be in touch as we near the beginning of the term. Thanks!
