Analyzing Our Environments Faculty and FIG Assistant

Professor

FIG Faculty: Phil Colbert - Computer and Information Science, College of Arts and Sciences

Hi, I'm Phil Colbert, a Computer Science instructor and your FIG guide to learning more about the environmental data that impacts all of our lives. In addition to teaching at the University of Oregon, I'm also co-founder of a company that assists in monitoring environmental data that began by monitoring the construction-related dust and emissions from the rebuild of the World Trade Center as the One World Trade Center. Academically, I have an MS in Computer Science, and a BS in Physical Science. Why Physical Science? For over 20 years I've been a consultant combining my computer skills with my passion for the sciences to research, develop, and sell software, and sometimes hardware, solutions. I could list my accomplishments, but I'd rather discuss your goals, and encourage you to try, and as often happens with software and with business, fail; failure is often the best teacher, so I strive to never give up! Let's try, succeed, fail, and learn together!

Logan Locke

FIG Assistant: Logan Locke

Hello everyone! My name is Logan, and I will be the FIG Assistant for Analyzing Our Environment. This will be my fourth year as an FA with this FIG. I was actually a part of this FIG my Freshmen year, and I’m looking forward to being your FA because I enjoyed it so much! I’m also excited about the opportunity to be involved in a FIG that includes two topics I’m very passionate about, Computer Science and Environmental Studies. I’m a senior studying Data Science with a focus on Music Technology. In my free time, I love playing video games, reading, and, of course, listening to music. I mostly listen to Alternative Rock and Electronic. Something I take advantage of in Oregon is its nature. I love hiking up Spencer's Butte, visiting the coast, skiing, or simply relaxing outside on a nice day. I grew up in South Florida and have loved my time in Eugene so far because it offers much more natural diversity than Florida. I’m excited to work with everyone this fall during your first term at the University of Oregon. If you are registered for Analyzing Our Environment, let me know if you have any questions, and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Have a great summer, and I look forward to meeting you!
