Analyzing Our Environments Faculty and FIG Assistant

Professor

FIG Faculty: Phil Colbert - Computer and Information Science, College of Arts and Sciences

Hi, I'm Phil Colbert, a Computer Science instructor and your FIG guide to learning more about the environmental data that impacts all of our lives. In addition to teaching at the University of Oregon, I'm also co-founder of a company that assists in monitoring environmental data that began by monitoring the construction-related dust and emissions from the rebuild of the World Trade Center as the One World Trade Center. Academically, I have an MS in Computer Science, and a BS in Physical Science. Why Physical Science? For over 20 years I've been a consultant combining my computer skills with my passion for the sciences to research, develop, and sell software, and sometimes hardware, solutions. I could list my accomplishments, but I'd rather discuss your goals, and encourage you to try, and as often happens with software and with business, fail; failure is often the best teacher, so I strive to never give up! Let's try, succeed, fail, and learn together!

FIG Assistant: Angela Mehta

Hello everyone! My name is Angela Mehta, my pronouns are she/her/hers and I am the FIG Assistant for Analyzing our Environment with Dr. Colbert. I will be a second-year student here at UO pursuing a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics.

I’ve lived in Eugene for nearly 3 years and have enjoyed spending my free time hiking with my family, taking trips to the beach, and spending time with my friends. When I’m not exploring Eugene, I spend my time indoors listening to music, reading new (and old) books, and watching TV shows or movies that I stumble upon on Netflix. I am always open to new movie and book recommendations!

I am very excited to be working with you this term, and cannot wait to hear from you and get to know you! If you have any questions or need help, do not hesitate to reach out! I am available by email for any questions you have or if you have no questions, feel free to introduce yourself or let me know of some interesting things you’ve found during your time in Eugene!
