Galen Martin received his PhD from University of California at Davis in human and environmental geography. He has been designing and teaching international courses at the University of Oregon for most of the past two decades.  Recent classes and research explore the interface of consumerism, food, and the environment.  He has extensive international experience with a regional focus on Latin America.  He currently serves on the Lane County Food Policy Council. Outside the classroom, Dr. Martin is an avid runner and performs music in several venues.  He and his family now tend a herd of grass-fed sheep and goats as well as garden on a small farm near Eugene.

FIG Assistant: Rowan Jackman

I am Rowan Jackman, the FA for the Digital Humanitarians FIG for fall of 2016. This is my second year as an FA for the Digital Humanitarians FIG and I am so excited! I grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon, which is a town in southern Oregon close to the border of California. I am currently a Junior at the University of Oregon, and will be returning to start my Senior year the fall of 2016. I am double majoring in International Studies and Spanish and had the pleasure of studying abroad last summer in Queretaro, Mexico. I am employed through the University, and work at the multiple coffee shops around campus. I love the outdoors, and going on adventures, which is fortunate because there are so many wonderful places to explore in Eugene. The college connections class will meet every week on Thursday at 4:00-4:50 p.m. in LIB 322.

Summer Assignment:

The summer assignment for this FIG will be to read the three short articles attached below about the Zika virus. Please send me an email at rowanj@uoregon.edu so I can get your email address, and include any questions you may have!
