Feature FIG Theme: Passport to World Culture

Joining a First-Year Interest Group (FIG) during fall term is one of the easiest ways to transition to college while staying on track to graduate on time. The philosophy of the FIG program is to help students build an academic home comprised of other first-year students with similar interests, an upper classman peer mentor (FIG Assistant), and a faculty mentor who help the students make connections all across campus.

Each FIG is a unique package of classes organized around an academic theme. To make finding the right FIG for you easier, we place our FIGs into broader categories to help you explore your options.

FIGs in the Passport to World Culture category investigate life outside the U.S. By selecting a FIG in this category, you will have the opportunity to explore a new language such as Arabic, Italian, Portuguese, or Swahili, engage in conversations around global ethics, and you may also get a chance to begin planning study abroad possibilities!
