Featured FIGs: Chemistry of Sustainability, Science of Learning, Science in the News

These three featured FIGS are part of the broader FIG offerings for fall of 2017. To see the full list please visit the Finding the FIG For You page. FIGs featured today are all chemistry FIGs!

Note: Chemistry FIGs will not be available to sign up for online on May 15. You will be able to sign up for a chemistry FIG at your IntroDUCKtion session.

This FIG will use life-cycle assessments and the principles of green chemistry to discuss sustainability from a chemical perspective; topics include polymer chemistry, water purification challenges in the 21st century, and an introduction to life-cycle thinking.

Isn't it interesting that we spend so much time learning and so little time looking at how we learn?  This FIG explores neuroscience-based cognitive theories that you can apply to master general chemistry and other challenging courses.

This FIG will consider how science stories are presented by the popular media, and how a person with or without a science education can analyze and make informed decisions about scientific issues that impact society.
