This course will address how life cycle assessment and the principles of green chemistry are being used to provide a platform for a collaborative approach to sustainability. Two important themes of the course are to learn about sustainability and to learn that chemists are problem-solvers.

“Cultural Encounters” incorporates themes from International Studies and Sociology to explore intersections of place and society as drivers of the human cultural expression. Expect a few outside activities this fall term, such as hiking to Professor Dreiling’s house for a day spent with your fellow College Connections students and a nice home cooked meal!

Does everyone want the same development? Who gets to decide what development means? This FIG pushes students to use the Swahili worldview from East Africa to interrogate dominant global models of International development.
